The Mimosa C6 (and its modular variant, the C6x) is a client radio designed for Point-to-Multipoint (PTMP) wireless networks, and with a future software release, also for Point-to-Point (PTP) links.

It’s a key component in providing high-speed, reliable internet connectivity, especially in challenging environments where a clear line of sight isn’t always possible.

Point-to-Multipoint (PTMP) Operation:

• Client Radio: The C6 acts as a “client” device that connects to a central “Access Point” (AP), typically a Mimosa A6. In a PTMP setup, a single A6 AP can serve multiple C6 client radios, distributing internet access to numerous subscribers.
• High Throughput: The C6 is designed for gigabit-class speeds, with the C6 offering up to 2.5 Gbps aggregate throughput (downlink + uplink) at the wireless interface, and the C6x up to 1.75 Gbps in PTMP mode (and 2.0 Gbps in PTP mode with a license).
• OFDM/OFDMA Technology: It leverages advanced Wi-Fi 6E based OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing) and OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access) technologies.
  • OFDMA: This is a crucial feature for PTMP. Instead of transmitting to one client at a time, OFDMA allows the AP to communicate with multiple clients simultaneously by dividing the wireless channel into smaller “resource units” (RUs). This significantly increases efficiency, reduces latency, and allows for massive subscriber scaling on the network.
  • Noise Mitigation: OFDMA’s smaller RUs also help mitigate the impact of in-band noise, as interference on one RU doesn’t necessarily affect the entire channel.
• Beamforming: The C6 (and A6 AP) utilizes transmit and receive beamforming. This technology focuses the wireless signal directly towards the client, rather than broadcasting it in all directions. This improves signal strength, reduces interference, and is critical for non-line-of-sight (NLOS) and near-line-of-sight (nLOS) connectivity.
• Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO): This allows the A6 AP to transmit and receive data from multiple C6 clients simultaneously using multiple antennas. This boosts overall network capacity and efficiency.
• Frequency Spectrum: The C6 operates in the 5150-6425 MHz range (restricted by country regulations), including the expanded 6 GHz band. The 6 GHz band is generally less congested and offers a “cleaner” spectrum, which is beneficial for performance, especially in noisy environments.
• Integrated Antenna with Beamforming: The C6 features an integrated 4×4 patch array antenna that supports beamforming, providing up to 20 dBi gain. The C6x has an 8 dBi native gain with modular “X-series” twist-on antenna options (12, 16, 20, 25, or 30 dBi) for greater flexibility in deployment range.

Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) and Near-Line-of-Sight (nLOS) Capability:

• This is a major differentiator for the C6. Unlike traditional wireless radios that require a clear line of sight between the transmitter and receiver, the C6 is specifically designed to work in environments with obstructions (trees, buildings, terrain).
• It achieves this through a combination of:
  • Powerful 4×4 MIMO and 8T8R chains: Allows for better signal reception and processing, even with reflections and diffractions.
  • Beamforming at both the C6 client and A6 AP: Helps signals navigate around obstacles.
  • Multipath Processing: The radio can intelligently process signals that arrive via multiple paths (reflections) to reconstruct the original data.
  • AI-driven Interference Management: Actively manages interference across different domains (space, time, frequency, power) to maintain reliable connectivity.
