Project Background
A Singapore-based IT solutions provider, supports enterprise customers across system integration, managed IT services, payroll software, and HR outsourcing solutions.
One of its financial services industry customers continued to rely on a mission-critical legacy application hosted on an existing server. As part of a network infrastructure upgrade, the server needed to connect to a new 10Gb Ethernet copper switch while allowing the banking application to remain fully operational.
Replacing the server was not an option due to application compatibility, migration risks, and cost considerations.
The Challenge
During deployment, engineers discovered that a standard 10GBASE-T (RJ45) SFP+ transceiver could not establish a stable connection between the legacy server and the 10Gb switch.
The server’s SFP+ interface was unable to support the higher power requirements of a conventional copper transceiver, preventing the Ethernet link from coming online.
