Although transceivers are components that comply to standards, and are supposed to be interoperable, many vendors have come out with their proprietary way of using transceivers to work only with their equipment. For example, a 10G multimode SFP+ transceiver from Cisco do not work on a HP switch, even though the technical specifications of the transceiver are the same. A software lock in the vendor’s equipment renders a Cisco transceiver in a HP switch useless, forcing you to pay exorbitant prices for new transceivers, and only from their approved source.

Starview has developed its own patented technology for anyone to use! It is a device to program Starview transceiver modules in the field, anytime and anywhere. This device is called STARPOD which stands for Starview Programming Optical Device. When you order Starview transceiver modules, they are pre-programmed to work in the specified equipment, e.g., CISCO switch, HP switch etc. Whenever you need to re-deploy the transceiver modules to work with other switches, the pre-coded module may not work as it does not match that equipment vendor’s coding. For instance, a CISCO coded transceiver will not work in a HP switch, and vice versa. You can watch the video. In such case, the STARPOD will be used to do the programming,The STARPOD supports many common transceiver modules used today, i.e., SFP/ SFP+, SFP28, QSFP+, QSFP28, QSFP56. The remote diagnostic is a great tool for Starview engineers to understand the issues of Starview transceiver modules. If a device is not working with our Starview transceiver module, the remote diagnostic function allows our engineers to read back the original working transceiver of that device in the field. This allows our engineers to quickly provide new firmware for new equipment vendors where our database does not currently support.
STARPOD offers a DWDM tuner function. You can change the DWDM wavelength of a tuneable SFP+ module without affecting the DWDM equipment in operation. Instead of fixed wavelength DWDM transceivers, a common Starview tuneable DWDM SFP+ transceiver simplifies inventory and sparing management.
